The Canadian Quran Academy’s Al-Azhar Quran course in Canada begins with Noorani Qaida foundations following Al-Azhar methodological frameworks—students master Arabic letter shapes, Harakat vowel systems, and connected letter forms before advancing to Quranic text. Lessons follow systematic Tajweed instruction mirroring Al-Azhar University’s structured approach—Makharij precision, Sifat classifications, and rule application during actual verse reading rather than isolated theoretical study.
Students progress through Quranic recitation with Hafs ‘an ‘Asim transmission standards—Ghunnah duration with Noon Sakinah, Qalqalah emphasis, Madd extensions, and Idgham applications taught incrementally. The Canadian Quran Academy’s Al-Azhar Quran course in Canada instructors apply traditional Egyptian pedagogical methods emphasizing repetition, oral transmission, and immediate error correction during live recitation sessions, preserving Al-Azhar’s centuries-old Quran teaching traditions adapted for digital instruction.
The Canadian Quran Academy structures lessons following Al-Azhar University’s foundational-to-advanced progression—letter recognition, Tajweed mastery, fluent recitation, then advanced Qira’at study.
Canadian learners start with isolated letter identification—recognizing ب (Bāʾ), ت (Tāʾ), ث (Thāʾ) in different positions—following Al-Azhar’s systematic visual recognition drills. The Canadian Quran Academy’s Al-Azhar Quran course in Canada enforces mastery criteria at each Noorani Qaida stage before advancement, mirroring Al-Azhar University’s refusal to skip foundational competencies even when students request accelerated pacing.
Students learn seventeen Makharij articulation points using Al-Azhar’s traditional classification system—throat letters (Halq), tongue positions (Lisan), lip formations (Shafatayn). The Canadian Quran Academy’s instructors drill each Makharij category separately before combining them during connected recitation, following Al-Azhar pedagogy emphasizing isolated skill mastery before integration into complex Quranic verse reading.
Students don’t memorize complete Tajweed rulebooks. They learn one category at a time—Noon Sakinah rules first, then Meem Sakinah, then Madd types—applying each during actual Quran recitation before advancing. The Canadian Quran Academy’s Al-Azhar Quran course in Canada follows traditional Egyptian sequencing where rule application precedes theoretical terminology, ensuring students hear correct recitation before naming the governing Tajweed principle.
Students listen to qualified reciters trained in Hafs ‘an ‘Asim transmission, imitating pronunciation through repetition before independent reading. The Canadian Quran Academy’s Al-Azhar Quran course in Canada preserves oral transmission chains (Isnad) central to Al-Azhar methodology—students learn from instructors who learned from authorized teachers maintaining unbroken Quranic recitation lineages back through Islamic scholarly generations.
Outcomes
Most learners arrive unable to distinguish Arabic letter shapes or positional variations. Students progress to reading Quranic text directly using Al-Azhar's systematic identification methods, recognizing letters and vowel marks without transliteration dependence. The Canadian Quran Academy's Al-Azhar Quran course in Canada builds visual Arabic literacy meeting traditional Islamic university benchmarks before advancing students to Tajweed rule application.
Students identify and produce seventeen Makharij points using Al-Azhar's classification system—distinguishing throat depths, tongue positions, and lip formations English speakers haven't encountered. The Canadian Quran Academy's instructors correct articulation errors during live sessions before they solidify, ensuring students meet Al-Azhar standards for Makharij accuracy affecting Quranic recitation validity and meaning preservation.
Learners graduate applying Ghunnah duration, Qalqalah emphasis, and Madd extensions reflexively during normal reading pace—not just when focusing specifically on Tajweed. The Canadian Quran Academy's Al-Azhar Quran course in Canada drills rules through Al-Azhar's repetition methodology until application becomes automatic during full Surah recitation, eliminating constant self-monitoring disrupting fluency.
Canadian learners recite using Hafs 'an 'Asim methodology—the most widely transmitted Quranic reading globally and Al-Azhar University's primary instruction standard. The Canadian Quran Academy's instructors correct transmission-specific pronunciations, vowel patterns, and pause markers (Waqf) ensuring students maintain Hafs 'an 'Asim consistency rather than mixing multiple Qira'at inadvertently during recitation.
Learners complete basic Quranic recitation prepared for intermediate studies—Quranic Arabic grammar (Nahw), Classical morphology (Sarf), or Tafsir methodology following Al-Azhar curriculum progression. The Canadian Quran Academy's Al-Azhar Quran course in Canada establishes baseline Quranic literacy necessary before tackling advanced Islamic sciences taught at traditional universities requiring fluent Arabic text comprehension.
Students experience Al-Azhar's oral transmission emphasis, incremental skill building, and repetition-based mastery—pedagogical approaches differing from Western educational models. The Canadian Quran Academy's instructors explain why Al-Azhar methods prioritize listening before reading, imitation before independent practice, and oral correction over written feedback, preparing Canadian students for potential future study at traditional Islamic institutions.

Alhumdulilah my son 7yr old loves his Quran classes. Sheikh Nour Eddin Mohmoud is very interactive and makes it very interesting for my son. MashaAllah my son has progressed in his Tajweed learning, applying and memorizing. After so many teachers finally found Sheikh Nour who understands and communicate with parents and listens as to what exactly one is looking for their child. I really recommend this institute and sheikh Nour . InshaAllah I want my other son to start with Sheikh Nour as well. Hope this helps for anyone who is looking to get their kids to learn online.
Alhamdulillah this is a great place to learn Quran, Islamic Studies, and Arabic. I took these three classes and gained a lot. They teach through zoom in one on one sessions where you decide the time and day. I used whatsapp as the communication and the coordinators were really responsive. For Quran, we would read the arabic together and then learn the tafsir. After that I would memorize the surah or a portion for the next class. For Arabic, it was a focus on vocabulary and conjugations of verbs. For Islamic studies you went through a text together. The teachers are really nice and you can ask anything. I found it enjoyable learning about a different culture as I was raised in America. Give it a try!
Real transformations from students who mastered the Quran with our courses
I took a course at Shaykhi Academy, and my name is Hamza Osama from England. During my time there, I learned the Arabic alphabet and Tajweed rules. I have also successfully memorized approximately two Juz of the Quran. My teacher was the best, and I feel I benefited a lot from him. I would advise anyone who wants to learn the Arabic language, Tajweed rules, or the Quran to join Shaykhi Academy.
I’m Yahia Sarhan, I’m 15 years old and I’m from Canada. I’ve been a student at Shaykhi Academy since 2019, so about three or four years now. It’s been a great learning opportunity for me and I’ve learned a lot about Islamic studies, the Quran, and Arabic reading. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who’s trying to learn.
