The Canadian Quran Academy’s Classical Arabic Course in Canada teaches the linguistic foundations that shaped fourteen centuries of Islamic scholarship. Students learn Classical Arabic grammar structures, verb morphology, and sentence construction through direct textual analysis. This approach builds reading proficiency in historical texts, scholarly works, and classical literature without relying on translation.
Canadian learners gain immediate access to primary Islamic sources—tafsir works, hadith collections, and fiqh manuals—that remain locked to those without Classical Arabic training. Toronto professionals studying Islamic finance, Montreal academics researching Islamic history, and Vancouver community leaders preparing khutbahs all benefit from direct engagement with authoritative texts written in this register.

The Canadian Quran Academy’s Classical Arabic Course in Canada focuses on morphological patterns, syntactic structures, and rhetorical devices that distinguish classical texts from modern dialects. Students analyze sentence construction through iʿrāb application, study verb derivations across ten forms, and decode complex nominal phrases. Lessons progress from isolated structures to full paragraph comprehension using excerpts from historical manuscripts.
Advanced modules address rhetorical features—balāghah elements like metaphor, metonymy, and ellipsis—that Classical Arabic authors employed for precision and elegance. Students learn to identify these devices in Quranic exegesis, legal rulings, and philosophical treatises. This training sharpens textual analysis skills essential for independent research in Islamic studies disciplines across Canadian universities and Islamic institutions.
The Canadian Quran Academy’s Classical Arabic instructors teach through layered analysis—students first decode grammatical markers, then analyze sentence relationships, finally interpret rhetorical intent within cultural context.
Canadian adults master Classical Arabic verbs, drilling the ten forms—each with meanings like causation, reflexivity, or intensity. Lessons isolate root letters, show how prefixes and suffixes modify meaning, and practice active-passive conversion. This structured morphological training accelerates vocabulary acquisition while reinforcing accurate understanding of verb patterns.
Canadian learners study Classical Arabic syntax, identifying subjects via ḍammah, objects via fatḥah, and genitive relationships via kasrah. Lessons progress from simple nominal sentences to complex structures with multiple clauses, conditional phrases, and embedded relatives, developing analytical skills needed for understanding and composing scholarly Classical Arabic prose.
The Canadian Quran Academy teaches students to recognize Classical Arabic balāghah techniques—metaphor, synecdoche, ellipsis. Lessons explain how omitted words are inferred, comparisons function without markers, and word choice conveys layered meanings, providing essential skills for interpreting tafsir where single phrases reference multiple semantic levels simultaneously.
Students read unvocalized classical texts, inferring grammatical endings from context and syntax. Lessons train identification of sentence boundaries, pronoun referents, and parsing complex philosophical arguments. The training equips Canadian graduate students, researchers, and Islamic studies instructors to access primary sources accurately in their original form.
Outcomes
Students develop automatic recognition of grammatical patterns that determine word pronunciation and meaning in manuscripts lacking diacritical marks. This outcome emerges through repeated exposure to historical texts where case endings must be inferred from syntactic position. Canadian researchers access rare manuscripts, unpublished treatises, and archival documents that exist only in unvocalized form.
Classical Arabic training helps adults recognize when exegetes use balāghah devices, conveying multiple meanings within single phrases. Learners identify metaphorical extensions, implied comparisons, and deliberate ambiguities. This skill is essential for Canadian Muslims leading study circles or preparing educational materials that require nuanced understanding of Quranic interpretation.
Students master full iʿrāb analysis, identifying each word’s grammatical function, case marking, and syntactic role within sentences. This enables independent verification of translations, detection of translators’ interpretive choices, and evaluation of scholarly opinions. Canadian academics, translators, and educators rely on this skill for conducting original research in Classical Arabic texts.
The Canadian Quran Academy’s curriculum develops recognition of vocabulary across fiqh, ʿaqīdah, tafsir, and hadith sciences through context, not rote memorization. Students learn how roots generate related terms across legal, theological, and exegetical fields by understanding morphological patterns. Professionals like Calgary lawyers and Edmonton chaplains rely on this foundation for applied Islamic studies.
Classical Arabic training transfers to Modern Standard Arabic comprehension, as formal writing preserves historical syntax. Students mastering iʿrāb, relative clauses, and conditional sentences read newspapers, journals, and official documents with ease. This skill benefits Vancouver professionals working with Arabic-speaking partners and Montreal academics analyzing contemporary Middle Eastern scholarship.
Students learn to write grammatically precise Arabic sentences with correct case endings, paragraph structure, and formal register. This training supports Canadian Muslims drafting correspondence, preparing bilingual educational materials, or contributing to Arabic publications. The Canadian Quran Academy’s instructors provide detailed feedback on assignments to progressively refine writing accuracy.

Alhumdulilah my son 7yr old loves his Quran classes. Sheikh Nour Eddin Mohmoud is very interactive and makes it very interesting for my son. MashaAllah my son has progressed in his Tajweed learning, applying and memorizing. After so many teachers finally found Sheikh Nour who understands and communicate with parents and listens as to what exactly one is looking for their child. I really recommend this institute and sheikh Nour . InshaAllah I want my other son to start with Sheikh Nour as well. Hope this helps for anyone who is looking to get their kids to learn online.
Alhamdulillah this is a great place to learn Quran, Islamic Studies, and Arabic. I took these three classes and gained a lot. They teach through zoom in one on one sessions where you decide the time and day. I used whatsapp as the communication and the coordinators were really responsive. For Quran, we would read the arabic together and then learn the tafsir. After that I would memorize the surah or a portion for the next class. For Arabic, it was a focus on vocabulary and conjugations of verbs. For Islamic studies you went through a text together. The teachers are really nice and you can ask anything. I found it enjoyable learning about a different culture as I was raised in America. Give it a try!
Real transformations from students who mastered the Quran with our courses
I took a course at Shaykhi Academy, and my name is Hamza Osama from England. During my time there, I learned the Arabic alphabet and Tajweed rules. I have also successfully memorized approximately two Juz of the Quran. My teacher was the best, and I feel I benefited a lot from him. I would advise anyone who wants to learn the Arabic language, Tajweed rules, or the Quran to join Shaykhi Academy.
I’m Yahia Sarhan, I’m 15 years old and I’m from Canada. I’ve been a student at Shaykhi Academy since 2019, so about three or four years now. It’s been a great learning opportunity for me and I’ve learned a lot about Islamic studies, the Quran, and Arabic reading. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who’s trying to learn.
