The Canadian Quran Academy’s Quran classes for kids in Mississauga begin with Noorani Qaida to establish Arabic letter recognition, then advance through Tajweed rule application, basic Quranic vocabulary, and graduated Surah memorization. Lessons address pronunciation challenges English-speaking children face with sounds like ع, ح, and خ through repetition drills and phonetic correction.
Instructors teach Quranic recitation through chunked verse practice, error correction without discouragement, and progress tracking aligned with each child’s cognitive development stage. Kids learn Harakaat recognition, elongation rules (Madd), and stopping points (Waqf) before advancing to full Surah recitation with Tajweed compliance suitable for Salah performance.
The Canadian Quran Academy’s curriculum follows a sequential progression from Arabic alphabet mastery to fluent Quranic recitation with Tajweed accuracy.
Children start with individual Arabic letter shapes, connecting forms, and Harakat (Fatha, Kasra, Damma) through visual drills and tracing exercises. Instructors introduce letter combinations gradually, building reading fluency before Quran exposure. Kids practice joining letters, recognizing Sukoon and Shaddah, and pronouncing Tanween variations through gamified repetition that holds attention spans typical of elementary-aged learners.
The Canadian Quran Academy’s instructors teach kids precise articulation points for letters requiring throat, tongue, and lip coordination unfamiliar to English speakers. Children learn Qalqalah, Ghunnah, and Idgham through slow-paced demonstration and immediate correction. Lessons isolate challenging sounds like ق versus ك, ط versus ت, ensuring pronunciation accuracy before verse application.
Instructors introduce high-frequency Quranic words tied to Surahs being memorized, teaching meanings through visual aids and contextual usage rather than rote translation lists. Kids learn root word patterns, common command verbs, and descriptive adjectives appearing across multiple chapters. Vocabulary drills strengthen comprehension during recitation, helping children connect sounds to meanings without disrupting fluency development.
The Canadian Quran Academy’s Hifz-oriented lessons teach kids verse-by-verse repetition, backward chaining (memorizing last verse first), and daily review cycles preventing forgetting. Instructors assign age-appropriate portions—typically three to five verses weekly—with parental involvement encouraged for home practice. Children learn retention strategies like rhythm recognition, meaning association, and group recitation before advancing to longer Surahs beyond Juz Amma.
Outcomes
Young students progress from letter-by-letter decoding to fluent Quranic reading at conversational pace, applying Tajweed rules automatically rather than consciously. They recognize verse patterns, anticipate pronunciation shifts, and self-correct Makharij errors without instructor prompting. This independence allows children to participate meaningfully in family prayers, Ramadan Taraweeh, and community gatherings requiring Quranic recitation.
Children develop muscle memory for proper Arabic pronunciation, eliminating common mistakes like skipping Ghunnah duration or mispronouncing heavy letters (Tafkheem). They apply elongation rules, pausing points, and merging sounds instinctively during recitation. Kids exit the program with Tajweed accuracy that prevents relearning later, establishing correct pronunciation habits that persist through adulthood.
Students commit Surahs like Al-Fatihah, Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, An-Nas, and portions of Juz Amma to long-term memory through spaced repetition and meaning-based association. They recite memorized verses during prayer without hesitation, building confidence in Islamic practice. Kids develop retention strategies transferable to school academics, including pattern recognition, chunking techniques, and self-testing habits.
Young students recognize 200-plus high-frequency Quranic words, understanding basic meanings without full translation. They identify repeated phrases across Surahs, connect root words to derivatives, and grasp core concepts like gratitude (شكر), patience (صبر), and guidance (هدى). This vocabulary foundation prepares kids for deeper Tafsir study during adolescence and adult Islamic education.
Children overcome recitation anxiety common among young learners, participating comfortably in masjid programs, Islamic school classes, and family Quran circles. They learn to maintain rhythm during collective recitation, recover from mistakes without embarrassment, and offer corrections respectfully to peers. This social confidence extends beyond Quranic settings into classroom presentations and public speaking scenarios.
Students form daily review routines, balancing Quran study with schoolwork, sports, and screen time typical of Canadian childhood. They understand progress requires regular practice rather than intensive cramming, developing discipline transferable to music lessons, language learning, and academic pursuits. Kids internalize that Quranic proficiency is gradual, reducing frustration when advancement feels slow compared to peers.

Alhumdulilah my son 7yr old loves his Quran classes. Sheikh Nour Eddin Mohmoud is very interactive and makes it very interesting for my son. MashaAllah my son has progressed in his Tajweed learning, applying and memorizing. After so many teachers finally found Sheikh Nour who understands and communicate with parents and listens as to what exactly one is looking for their child. I really recommend this institute and sheikh Nour . InshaAllah I want my other son to start with Sheikh Nour as well. Hope this helps for anyone who is looking to get their kids to learn online.
Alhamdulillah this is a great place to learn Quran, Islamic Studies, and Arabic. I took these three classes and gained a lot. They teach through zoom in one on one sessions where you decide the time and day. I used whatsapp as the communication and the coordinators were really responsive. For Quran, we would read the arabic together and then learn the tafsir. After that I would memorize the surah or a portion for the next class. For Arabic, it was a focus on vocabulary and conjugations of verbs. For Islamic studies you went through a text together. The teachers are really nice and you can ask anything. I found it enjoyable learning about a different culture as I was raised in America. Give it a try!
Real transformations from students who mastered the Quran with our courses
I took a course at Shaykhi Academy, and my name is Hamza Osama from England. During my time there, I learned the Arabic alphabet and Tajweed rules. I have also successfully memorized approximately two Juz of the Quran. My teacher was the best, and I feel I benefited a lot from him. I would advise anyone who wants to learn the Arabic language, Tajweed rules, or the Quran to join Shaykhi Academy.
I’m Yahia Sarhan, I’m 15 years old and I’m from Canada. I’ve been a student at Shaykhi Academy since 2019, so about three or four years now. It’s been a great learning opportunity for me and I’ve learned a lot about Islamic studies, the Quran, and Arabic reading. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who’s trying to learn.
