The Canadian Quran Academy’s Arabic classes in Scarborough focus on systematic skill development rather than passive exposure. Each session addresses Arabic phonetics, morphological patterns, grammatical structures, and contextual vocabulary application. Students practice Arabic listening comprehension, construct Arabic sentences independently, read authentic texts with accuracy, and engage in spoken Arabic exchanges with increasing confidence.
Technical lessons include Arabic verb conjugation across tenses, noun-adjective agreement rules, sentence construction protocols, and pronunciation of emphatic consonants unfamiliar to English speakers. Adult learners and younger students progress through differentiated pathways—both emphasizing active Arabic language production, not memorization of isolated phrases. Functional literacy emerges through deliberate practice.
The Canadian Quran Academy structures Arabic language instruction around linguistic precision and practical application.
Arabic alphabet mastery begins with accurate letter formation and sound differentiation. Students learn to distinguish between ح and ه, ص and س, ط and ت—sounds that don’t exist in English phonology. Lessons address proper articulation points, connecting letters in written form, and reading Arabic script fluently from right to left with minimal hesitation.
Arabic grammar lessons cover sentence structure patterns, verb conjugation systems, and gender-number agreement rules. Students practice constructing nominal and verbal sentences, applying case endings appropriately, and understanding how Arabic syntax differs fundamentally from English. Grammar becomes a tool for building meaning, not an abstract exercise disconnected from communication.
Developing Arabic speaking proficiency requires consistent oral practice and error correction. Students engage in structured dialogues, vocabulary expansion exercises, and situational conversations relevant to daily life—shopping, introducing oneself, discussing family, asking directions. Pronunciation receives ongoing refinement, particularly for sounds like ع, غ, and ق that challenge English speakers.
Reading authentic Arabic texts exposes students to vocabulary in context and natural sentence patterns. Lessons incorporate graded reading materials, comprehension checks, and vocabulary retention strategies. Students move from reading simplified passages to engaging with news articles, Islamic texts, or literary excerpts—building stamina for sustained Arabic reading without constant translation.
Outcomes
Students achieve functional Arabic reading ability—decoding unfamiliar words, comprehending sentence meaning, and engaging with authentic materials without constant dictionary dependence. Reading fluency develops through progressive exposure to diverse text types, vocabulary building exercises, and comprehension strategies. Most students read Arabic news headlines, social media content, or religious texts within structured study timelines.
Adult learners develop conversational Arabic skills for practical interactions within Scarborough's Arabic-speaking communities. They introduce themselves accurately, ask clarifying questions, discuss daily topics, and navigate common social exchanges. Confidence grows through repetition, immediate error correction, and low-pressure speaking practice that normalizes mistakes as learning opportunities.
Arabic writing proficiency emerges through systematic grammar application and composition practice. Students construct grammatically sound sentences, apply proper verb conjugations, maintain subject-verb agreement, and use appropriate prepositions. Writing exercises progress from isolated sentences to short paragraphs—reinforcing grammar rules through active production rather than passive recognition.
Children develop Arabic handwriting skills and letter recognition simultaneously. Lessons emphasize correct stroke order, proportional letter sizing, and connecting letters smoothly in cursive Arabic script. Young students build muscle memory for Arabic writing while associating written forms with corresponding sounds—establishing foundational literacy skills.
Functional Arabic vocabulary grows through thematic units covering family, food, transportation, work, and community life. Students learn high-frequency words, practice them in sentences, and apply vocabulary actively in speaking and writing tasks. Vocabulary retention improves through spaced repetition, contextual usage, and connection to students' immediate environments.
Arabic listening skills develop through exposure to native speaker audio, varied dialects, and different speaking speeds. Students practice identifying key information, understanding main ideas despite unfamiliar vocabulary, and distinguishing between similar-sounding words. Listening comprehension supports speaking development and prepares students for real-world Arabic communication.

Alhumdulilah my son 7yr old loves his Quran classes. Sheikh Nour Eddin Mohmoud is very interactive and makes it very interesting for my son. MashaAllah my son has progressed in his Tajweed learning, applying and memorizing. After so many teachers finally found Sheikh Nour who understands and communicate with parents and listens as to what exactly one is looking for their child. I really recommend this institute and sheikh Nour . InshaAllah I want my other son to start with Sheikh Nour as well. Hope this helps for anyone who is looking to get their kids to learn online.
Alhamdulillah this is a great place to learn Quran, Islamic Studies, and Arabic. I took these three classes and gained a lot. They teach through zoom in one on one sessions where you decide the time and day. I used whatsapp as the communication and the coordinators were really responsive. For Quran, we would read the arabic together and then learn the tafsir. After that I would memorize the surah or a portion for the next class. For Arabic, it was a focus on vocabulary and conjugations of verbs. For Islamic studies you went through a text together. The teachers are really nice and you can ask anything. I found it enjoyable learning about a different culture as I was raised in America. Give it a try!
Real transformations from students who mastered the Quran with our courses
I took a course at Shaykhi Academy, and my name is Hamza Osama from England. During my time there, I learned the Arabic alphabet and Tajweed rules. I have also successfully memorized approximately two Juz of the Quran. My teacher was the best, and I feel I benefited a lot from him. I would advise anyone who wants to learn the Arabic language, Tajweed rules, or the Quran to join Shaykhi Academy.
I’m Yahia Sarhan, I’m 15 years old and I’m from Canada. I’ve been a student at Shaykhi Academy since 2019, so about three or four years now. It’s been a great learning opportunity for me and I’ve learned a lot about Islamic studies, the Quran, and Arabic reading. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who’s trying to learn.
